Evolution Versus Creationism

Introduction

The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast the concepts of evolution and creationism. This paper aims to explore the ideas that are the basic grounds on which different theories of evolution were formulated. In addition, this paper also discusses the ideologies of creationism. The purpose of this discussion is to justify the adaption of evolution in learning rather than the Biblical creationism. Evolution is the process of development that consists of gradual changes, without abrupt disruptions. The word evolution is more often used as a synonym for biological evolution (Willey, 89). The process known as evolution is an irreversible procedure and directed by the historical development of wildlife. This process is accompanied by a change in the genetic composition of the every single entity that is living in the environmental system. Evolution is also responsible for the formation of adaptation, extinction of species, transformation of ecosystems and the conversion of the biosphere (Willey, 91).

Creationism is a movement that is supported by the faith-based concepts. This conception strongly denies the concept of evolution and states that the creation of world can be justified by the description in Genesis (Young, 88). Creationism tries to explain the findings of various scientific studies to match the biblical description. In addition, the conceptions of creationism tend to demolish the theories that are incompatible with the Biblical theory of evolution (Montagu, 203). According to the followers of creationism the belief in the Biblical conception of creation is indisputable and cannot be denied as it is widely accepted since ancient times (Moore, 45).

Comparison of Ideologies

There are several theories of evolution; these theories claim that the forms of life that can be observed today are descended from other life forms that existed hundreds of years ago. Nevertheless, every evolutionary theory differs in explaining the mechanism of evolution. The theory of evolution that has gained maximum attention is the synthetic theory of evolution which is contemporary and developed version of Darwin's theory of evolution (Stefoff, 67). evertheless, in the Middle Ages there were several issues and criticism raised over the conceptions of creationism, these criticisms later on were presented in different forms of theories that were contradictory to Biblical concepts of creation (Young, 88). Due to the decline of the Catholic Church and the increase in researches by scientists, things began to change and people started to deny the concept of creationism (Moore, 47).

According to the mechanism of evolution the genes that are passed from parents to their offspring are the expression of characteristics in the particular organism (phenotypes). It is stated that the genes that are transferred from parents to their offspring are is continuous process of change as a result of this phenomenon the offspring may show variations in appearance, traits or other characteristics that are not available in their parents (Willey, 90).
