Tom in a state of confusion is not only ethically cheating his boss, Michael but putting the health of 17 year old students to risk by not stopping Brenda from selling Alcohol to Mary.
Ethical Egoism
Tom can resolve his dilemma by ethical egoism as it suggests that motivation for the action will be to gain personnel benefit of satisfaction by stopping selling of alcohol to 17 year olds and getting praise from Michael the shop owner for Tom's dedication (QUT, 2011).
Utilitarianism
Tom can resolve his dilemma under utilitarianism as his actions would not only benefit Michael the shop keeper from government fines but it will also benefit the health of all the 17 year school goers who are purchasing alcohol from Mary. Although, Brenda might get affected but the goods of all are greater than bad for Brenda in this case (Cooper, 2008).
Kantian Ethics
As the Kanatian theory suggests that actions come from a sense of duty and in this case it is the duty of Tom to stop the supply of alcohol for the underage school boys. Tom's action will be universally acceptable as everyone will discourage the consumption of alcohol for under age teenagers. Respect for Tom after his actions will increase in the eye of Michael his boss and the community for protecting health of the kids. The action is 100% reversible as Tom can place himself in Brenda's position and for earning her income the mode she has chosen is illegal and stopping it is not very difficult to reverse for you (QUT, 2011).
