Introduction

The changing working and learning environment is bringing about a number of challenges in dealing with the members belonging to different cultures and backgrounds. The differences among the group members_ a concept famous with the name of workgroup diversity have a considerable impact on the effectiveness, performance and efficiency of the group working. These effects can either be positive or negative. So in order to collaborate with the members belonging to diverse cultures possessing different values, and to bring about positive results, all members must show feeling of affection and respect towards the beliefs, and values of the other group members. This essay is reflective in nature assessing the effectiveness of the group presentation that I and my group members made evaluating the business and culture of Tesco, a UK company.

Discussion

Diversity brings about a number of effects on collaboration and coordination in groups. The identification of key issues in this regard could help better understand the functioning of the team. (Knippenber & Schippers, 2007, pp.515-541)

Choosing the members for group presentation

In order to make our presentation effective, one of the major tasks is to come up with a team whose individual efforts can collectively bring a synergetic impact and help in better accomplishing the provided task. The members we select for our group belong to different cultures and backgrounds including (Me) Arsen Baklachyan from Armenia, Diana Khamizova from Russia, Leticia Cardoso from Brazil, and Kateryna Ratskevych from Ukraine. This diversity leads us to have a strong social interaction so as to better understand the values and the important characteristics of the fellow members belonging to diverse backgrounds. The main objective for selecting such a diverse group is that working with different people bring about more challenges that we believe helps us in getting ourselves prepare to work in a professional environment.

Knowing group members at start

As I have mentioned, all members are from different cultures so we just know each other by face and names. No one of us has any idea regarding the different background to which each of the group mates belongs. We never had any team work before that is a basic reason of being unfamiliar with each other diverse values and cultures. However, being classmates and as reflected by participation in class, we have an idea regarding the performance and the working interest of each of the group members. As time passed, and, we spend time together our relation took a noble shape of friendship.

Discussion regarding how we would work together as an effective group

For an effective communication, planning of the task is much mandatory. We as a group tried to incorporate this element in our group work. We made a brief pan and outline regarding the way we will precede in accomplishing our task.
