Early Life

After high school, Hemingway started to chase his composing career. He moved to Kansas town to start work on the Kansas town Star. However, his job got rather monotonous, so looking for something new, Hemingway became a volunteer for the American Red Cross. He did everything from recovering human remains to driving an ambulance (Benson, 345-358). One night, while on canteen obligation, shots were discharged at the men, hurting one and murdering another. Attempting to save a man, Hemingway was shot in the knee. He said that he thought of shooting himself with his pistol because he felt that death seemed more natural than life (Miller, 78-81). Taken to a hospital in Milan with his two gunshot cuts, he had surgery and quickly recovered. However, while he was there, he came to understand Agnes von Kurowsky. They expended a lot of time simultaneously, and whereas he liked to wed her, she dropped in love with an Italian man.

In 1919, the author moved to Canada, earning nearly a penny a phrase for his characteristic stories in the Toronto Star. Shortly after this, he moved to Chicago where he met Hadley Richardson. She and Hemingway became very quick associates and composed each other often. In one note, she wrote of her love for him, so they started visiting each other on a normal basis. On September 3, 1921, they were wed in Horton Bay. Another useful introduction was Sherwood Anderson, who assured the newlyweds to move to Paris to help Hemingway get a jump-start on his writing. Hadley became with child in March, delivering John Hadley Nicanor Hemingway, deemed "Bumby" by his dad, on October 10, 1923. Pauline Pfeiffer, a friend of Hadley's, was dropping in love with Hemingway, and he with her. Hemingway married Pauline in May and in June of 1928, Pauline had Patrick in Kansas City. Gregory Hancock, Hemingway's second child with Pauline, was born on November 12, 1931. After a brief wedding ceremony to Pauline, he determined to marry Martha Gelhorn, a writer. The detail that they were in the identical enterprise and she was his identical made him uneasy and competitive. While in London, he contacted Mary Welsh. Since the journalist and Martha had failed to acquiesce on issues lately, Mary was a pleasant change. He divorced Martha in 1945 and wed Mary in 1946.
