Introduction

Kettering Health Network is a network of eight hospitals operational in Dayton, Ohio. The organization employs over 9500 employees and is expanding further. This is one of the biggest and most renowned hospitals of Ohio. The network of hospitals has won several awards due to the premium quality healthcare provided and management excellence. In addition, the hospital has been ranked among the top 10 hospitals in the United States of America. This list is provided and finalized by Thomson Reuters in the year 2011. In the year 2010, the network of hospital managed to bag the Governor's Award which is a part of the Baldrige National Quality Program (KHN, 2012).

These awards have been bagged only because of the management's commitment to remain in the top 10 list and maintain the best healthcare delivery system in order to gain customer lifetime value. The organization has a forwards approach and has always focused on inching towards tomorrow. The paper discusses the educational need assessment for nurses at the hospitals.

Nursing profile

The nursing profile which has been selected for the educational needs assessment is General Nursing care at bedside utilizing computerized charting. This is a new field and there is education needed in this field. This is one of the important advancements in technology that will aid in the improvement of nursing care provided to the hospital patients. The hospital will identify the need for the up gradation and use of Bedside Electronic Medical Record in the hospital and identify the nursing staff that needs this improvement (Scott, 2006).

Volume of activity of Kettering Health Network

The volume of activity of the Kettering Health Network may be understood from the fact that it has successful network of eight hospitals. In addition, these hospitals have 60 state of the art facilities through which the network of hospitals caters to its diverse customer base. The number of physicians working for Kattering health Network is more than 1200. Not only this, there are about 1000 additional physicians who work for the hospital on voluntary basis. The growth of the hospital is reflective of the phenomenal volume of activity. The employees of the hospital are considered part of the Dayton Community (Meyer, 2002).

Levels of nursing care staff employed

Kettering Health Network employs nurses at three levels. These are Skilled Nursing Care, Intermediate Care and Custodial Care (Feeg, 2008).

Skilled nursing care - These are nurses that are appointed to provide service round the clock and usually work in shifts. These provide nursing and rehabilitative services and usually perform their job under the supervision of a more skilled and experienced nurse or doctor.
