Dubbing and Subtitling Restrictions and Priorities

Introduction

This research aims to explore the restrictions that are imposed on the dubbing and subtitling of movies in United Kingdom. The main objective of this research is to enlighten the dubbing and subtitling issues in United Kingdom. This is the area of research which is related to the area of film making (Dupagne, Waterman, 1998, 204-210). Dubbing is the process of post production process. This process engulfs the replacement of recorded voices in form of a soundtrack in order to polish the end product (film or television) (Dupagne, Waterman, 1998, 204-210). This process is crucial before the movie release because if the movie is not dubbed properly it will end up with distorted voices and unpleasant sounds. The term dubbing is also used for the replacement of the dialogues or their conversion in another language (Dupagne, Waterman, 1998, 204-210). This process generally refers to the replacement of the original dialogues spoken by actors in a particular language with other identical dialogues that are translated into the foreign language.

The dubbing is also described as the process of rewriting lines of dialogue spoken by an "actor" in the original production, and must be replaced to improve the audio quality or reflect changes in dialogue (Dupagne, Waterman, 1998, 204-210). Music of the movie is also folded once its dubbing is complete. Different literary sources reveal that the films, videos and sometimes video games are dubbed in local languages ??for the foreign market in order to increase the sales of the end product as through dubbing it would be easily understandable to the people who are not able to understand the original language of the movie (Dupagne, Waterman, 1998, 204-210). The process of dubbing is common in films released in cinemas, TV series and cartoons for their overseas distribution.

Similarly the subtitling is a technique related to audiovisual content, including film; this consists of the display of text at the bottom of the image, during the broadcast of a program or the time in which the movie is playing. This process is similar like dubbing yet bit differentiated than the former one (Dupagne, Waterman, 1998, 204-210). This process is also aimed to make movie understandable for the people who cannot understand the language in which the original dialogues of movie are spoken (Dupagne, Waterman, 1998, 204-210). However, this process is less sophisticated and time consuming than the process of dubbing because in this process only editing of text is required; however, in dubbing every dialogue of the movie is ...
