Trafficking paths have carved paths of decimation through Central America. Some 88% of the cocaine destined for the United States transits through the Central America/Mexico corridor. South America makes an estimated 900 tons of cocaine annually - worth some US$60 billion in 2003 - the massive earnings from which dwarf the legitimate economies of some transit territorys.
