Difference in Competencies: Associates versus Baccalaureate Nurses
Introduction
Among women the nursing progression was basically originated. After all woman was considered to be the nurturer's and care takers of an individual's family. Years ago, the nursing was not even considered as a career. It was considered to be a profession which was unwanted and undesirable. Within the contemporary health care system the nurses with skills, knowledge and values enable them to provide a quality care. The role of a nurse is to provide a safe and healthy environment so that a patient lives in an optimal health. The practice of nursing requires a good theoretical understanding of diseases and health management. The educational process outcomes are the competencies; these are the kinds of personal abilities which most nurse educators are seeking to develop in students (Aiken, 2006).
Discussion
In 1990's the nursing shortage inspired the organization of nursing to differentiate the requirements of work and education in order to attract new job. For BSN level and associate degree levels, the American Organization of Nurse Executive and American Association of College Nursing (AACN) started to differentiate competencies of nursing into separate carrier. For each nursing certification by academic options, originating distinct duties and each nursing requirement certification both the association thought that they could fight the shortage of nursing, increase the growth of job and the work efficiency. There are three types of registered nurses currently in United State. Diploma nurses usually get education through hospital based settings it last for about 3 years, Associate degree nurses which are planned to train undergraduates to provide care of entry level in a clinical setting and collect their degree in 2 years and bachelor science degree/BSN program in nursing is a 4years academic degree which is offered by universities or colleges. This essay will highlight the differences in competencies between nurses at the baccalaureate-degree level and at the associate-degree level by focusing on approaches to patients outcomes and patients care (Aiken, L, 2003).
As the years passed there was nurse shortage, in order to compensate this lack in 1951, Mildred Montag found the Associate Degree in nursing program.
