Developing a Code of Conduct

Developing a Code of Conduct

Introduction

The following essay is about the amendments in code of conduct for the employees mandated by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. The Commission is a non-profit organization which came into being in 1951. The Commission evaluates various organizations. It has around 17,000 organizations listed under it in the United States of America (www.hercenter.org). On the other hand, the Commission examines the proposals of health plans adopted by organizations and gives its approval for its implementation. It sets standards for these organizations and makes sure that the listed organizations comply with the set standards. Its mission is to work for the improvement of the healthcare sector and inspiring the organizations to excel in their mission of providing better and safe health care conditions with the highest level of good value and quality (www.ada.org).

Sentinel event description

The word “sentinel” depicts the immediate need of investigation over an issue. Sentinel event maybe described as an unforeseen event that might involve serious injury or death (www.jointcommission.org). The Sentinel Event policy aims to improve the practices of treatments and patient care so that sentinel events may be avoided. The organisation must understand the event to work for reducing the occurrence of such an event in the future. The Commission has amended its policies in 2009 for governing the codes of conducts of the employees and how they should be guarded against any serious issue or a sentinel event(www.jointcommission.org). The code signifies that extended work hours are the main reason behind the declining work productivity of an employee that ultimately leads to fatigue. This fatigue may lead to the increment in risks and might affect personal health and well-being.
