Introduction
Today In the modern world, where people have a different mindset, and mental stance sometimes undergo in criminal activities, and now a days the level of crime has been increasing of a very high pace along with crimes, terrorism, misuse of drugs, and rape cases. Thus, among others there are numerous challenges facing criminal justice organizations. The need to cope with such challenges is demanding and requires much dedication by the organizations in order to ensure that justice prevails. It is appropriate for criminal justice organizations to depend on well trained, committed, ethical, and qualified professionals in dealing with the rising cases of crime and the enforcement of laws that govern our society as well as protecting constitutional privileges and civil liberties of individuals.
The sub-groups and gangs in the prison system are flourishing all over the world. These gangs have a major influence on the life of other prisoners and their well-being (Curry 1998). Also, it is affecting the administrators and staff of the prison system, who are responsible for peace and safety for all prisoners in the prison. However, it can also be said that these sub-groups or gangs play an essential role in stabilizing the inmate environment (by protecting these people from exploitation, assaults, or any other harm) (Battin 2001).
A research conducted over 80,000 sub-groups and gangs in the US concluded that the prisoners who were embedded in these sub-groups or gangs were more violent that the people who were peripherally involved. Also, people who were peripherally involved in these groups or gangs were more violent than those who were unaffiliated (Bjerregaard 1999).
Discussion
The major issue in any prison setting is the requirement of time that the sub-groups and gangs require. According to a research, 91% of the time of staff is spent with 10% of the inmates. They spend most of their time to settle the issues between gangs and sub-groups. The major role of the staff is to control conflicts among them (Curry 1998).
Administration and policies
Administration pays significant attention to gather the intelligence within and outside the prison in order to maintain the safety and security of the prison. For this purpose, intelligence officers are hired (one for each of the sub-groups and gangs) to identify every behavior or conflicting issues between or within them to protect all prisoners around them.
