Credentialing vs. Educating

Introduction

The importance of credentials is increasing day by day as compared to education. People these days are spending more in earning the credentials rather than the education. Different colleges have also realised the importance of credentials and have started the four year degree program. The importance of credentials is increasing and people are investing more and more money in order to obtain credentials. There is a growing importance of credentials in work field and professional companies are giving more importance to students with high credentials. Therefore, Universities of North America are focusing more on credentialing rather than educating. Credentialing helps in increasing value of CV; therefore, students are ready to bear the cost of obtaining the high degrees. The main purpose of this paper is to differentiate between credentialing and educating on the basis of own experience and conduct interviews from two students about differences between credentialing and educating.

Personal Experience on Difference between Credentialing and Educating

I have been studying in a college and was getting my undergraduate degree. I was so happy that I am getting a perfect education and I am learning something which can be helpful for me in increasing my knowledge and expertise. While continuing my education in college, I have made a plan that soon I will apply for the job because I have learnt so much through proper educating. After completing my college degree I have started applying for job in reputable companies. I have kept on applying in the reputable firms where I can have a better chance to utilize my learning, but I did not get any proper response from the companies. It decreases my motivation, thus I have tried to find out the main reasons behind my rejection for jobs. Later on, I started talking to different consulting firms of professional career. After making conversations from these consultancy firms I have realized that though I have proper educating and I have enough capabilities but I do not have much credentials. The professionals at these professionals firms have made me realize that these days importance of credentialing is increasing as compared to educating (Jacobs 164). The professional consultants have told me that these days' companies prefer the CV with higher credentialing, and not looking at the resumes which are without any high credentials. Thus, I have realized the importance of higher credentialing in getting proper education. I have conducted research in this regard and have identified that there is a great difference in educating and credentialing. Educating is the learning the new concepts and getting proper knowledge, while credentialing is mainly associated with getting a higher degree with four years education. I have realized that different institutes which were based on college education have now raised their standards and offering the higher credentials (Montgomery 78). The students are also aware of the importance of high credentialing; therefore, they are spending a huge amount in getting a four year degree.
