If the project is delayed then the project manager should take steps in order to minizmize the slack time that is available in task A, B, D and E. If these slack times are used effciently and effectively then it will save the cost of the project; and all resources will be utilized porpoerly.

Answer: Question 2

Part a)

The position of an operation on the volume-variety continuum, by influencing the nature of its performance objectives and its design activities, also shapes the general approaches it takes to managing the transformation process. These 'general approaches' to managing the transformation process are called process types. Different terms are used to identify various processes in services and manufacturing industries. Following are the name of the processes that used in manufacturing industy:

Jobbing processes

Product processes

Continuous Processes

Mass processes

Batch processes

Part b)

Product processes

There are many projects that are been started before analyzing the environmental factors. If there is a process task that has to be done everday in routine then it must have a standard that is been assigned to the team. Product process is a useful technique that helps in analyzing the tasks that has to be assigned and also enable a manager to assign task according to the skills of the person.

Mass processes

Mass processes are those which produce goods in high volume and relatively narrow variety. An automobile plant, for example, might produce several thousand variants of car if every option of engine size, colour, extra equipment etc. is taken into account. Yet essentially it is a mass operation because the different variants of its product do not affect the basic process of production.

Batch Processes

System known as batch (batch processing), or batch mode, the execution of a program without direct supervision or control of the user (called interactive processing). Such programs are characterized by their execution does not require any user interaction. Generally, this type of implementation is used in repetitive tasks on large sets of information, as it would be tedious and error prone to do it manually.

Jobbing Processes

Continuous processing Continuous processes are one step beyond mass processes insomuch as they operate at even higher volume and often have even lower variety. They also usually operate for longer periods of time. Sometimes they are continuous in that their products are inseparable, being produced in an endless flow. Examples are petrochemical refineries, electricity utilities, steel making, and some papermaking.

Par t c)

Petroleum Gas Production = Batch Processes

Construction of six (6) 5-Bedroom Houses = Continuous Process

Initial creation of the James Bond movie - “SkyFall” = Mass Processes

Production of James Bond movie DVDs - “You Only Live Twice” = Mass Processes
