Introduction

    In some cases of conjoined twins it is ethically permissible to distinct them in a surgical method but not in all cases. Each one-by-one case must be looked at and determined upon. The general aim, main heading and ultimate outcome of care must show esteem for the dignity of human life.

    These decisions are complicated by ethical problems involving patient privacy, the allocation of share organs and in some instance the necessity for one twin to die order to save the other.

    In Jodie and Mary's case, surgical separation is ethically permissible because Jodie, the stronger one, has a right to be issued or divided from Mary, else both would die within months.

 

Incidence and Development of Conjoined Twins:   

    The incidence of conjoined twins happens once in roughly 50,000 births. Approximately 60 per cent are stillborn. Conjoined twins are considered to be mono-zygotic, mono-chorionic twins of the identical sex with equal chromosomal patterns. It is believed that the malformation happens between the 13th and 15th days after fertilization. The inward mass of the cell is divide into equal halves, each adept of forming a normal individual. In conjoined twins, complete separation of the inward cell mass inside the chronic vesicle does not happen and non separated components of the else normal twins stay fused throughout development.

 

Jodie and Mary's Condition:

    Conconnected twins Mary and Jodie are connected at their lower abdomens in a circular pelvis. Mary has an underdeveloped mind, described as "extremely primitive". She also has a heart and lungs that do not function and depends on Jodie for oxygenated blood.
