Abstract

Web-based learning was developed in academia as a teaching and research object. Subsequently, the private sector has been on the market, with more targeted objectives: increasing productivity in teaching, both intellectually and professionally. Both in terms of technology than on pedagogy, e-learning has focused on meeting the needs of an intellectual and financial elite, without taking into account the target groups of low socioeconomic status. Distance learning should be based on the same conceptual basis, but taking into account the specifics of the technological part of it. Many problems are solved; even more successful it is in the form of distance, such as differentiation, individualization of instruction.

Introduction

According to Wang (2008, p.207), web-based learning improvises itself as the information technology develops itself. To develop a web-based learning approach to meet various needs of students is a challenge. A strong link between the needs of students and learning environment makes way for successful learning. Wang described that previous research has shown that there are various factors which influence the learning of students. The factors include age, gender and socio economic status. Wang described that recently science education is focusing on learner attributes, learning experiences and learning characteristics. The learner attributes include motivation, attitude or interest. The learning experiences include mental model, alternative mental structure, and misconceptions. The learning characteristics include learning style or cognitive style. E-learning is influenced by learning style which is the most important factor. Student learning is also affected by design strategy of teaching environment. Students can reach to higher level of learning with the teaching activities and strategies which are build keeping in mind the individual differences (Wang 2008, 448).
