Comparison between Islam and Christianity

Introduction

In this paper I will be discussing the various factors which make both the religion similar and the factors which differentiate between both the religions.

Christianity

Christianity is the religion which is based on the teachings of Jesus. The Christians follow His teaching and consider him as the son of God. This is due to the reason that Jesus was born from a virgin mother name Maria and without any father. They further believe that Jesus was a complete human being and fully divine. They further believe him to be the saviour of humanity. For his services to the mankind Jesus is referred as Messiah by the Christians. Christians are divided into three large groups known as Christians of Roman Catholic Church, the various denominations of Protestantism and the Eastern Orthodox Church. Christians has their holy book named Bible which is considered to a sacred scripture Jesus has bought as the orders from the God.

Islam

Islam is one of the fastest spreading religions in this era. The followers of Islam are known as Muslims. Muslims follow the teaching of Prophet Mohammad and the teaching of God they call ALLAH. The orders from ALLAH have been forwarded to His creation by Prophet Mohammad. The teachings which are directly related to Prophet Mohammad are called Sunnah and the teaching of ALLAH is compiled as a sacred book named Quran. Muslims seemed to be divided into two big sects known as Shia and Sunni. As in Christians, in Muslims also these people follow certain leaders which distinguish them from each other. There is no physical or religious difference in these sects except a few things. Though there are similarities in two religions there are still theological differences. Like the Muslims say that that God cannot be divided into a Trinity and the division to the characteristic of God which says that He is one and only and there is no one born from Him and He is not born from anyone else. They called the concept of trinity as Shirk that is grace sin. Muslims believe that Jesus was born from Maria and he is not the Son of God. They further believe that Jesus was the Prophet who was sent in last to the people of Israel.

Discussion

The religion of Islam and Christianity are known as the religions which are derived from the faith of Abraham. Muslims consider the Christians as the people of the book. There is a relationship of Muslims with the Church also which can be seen from the saying which says that

“"The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day." - Catechism of the Catholic Church
