Community

Thesis Statement

People are generally members of multiple communities of practice. Whenever people come together in groups to do things—in school, at church, in work groups, and in political or recreational groups—they are involved in a community of practice. Most people are central members of some communities of practice and peripheral members in others. It is because community of practice turns attention to the communication processes that create and sustain people's definition of what they are about and fosters connections to others involved in the practice that the idea has been so influential in communication.
