Racism has always been a subject of discussion all around the globe. With the passage of time researches on the effects of race on health and social behavior have been conducted, but yet the interpretations are vague. The ethnic studies have been restricted to a particular group, and not many researchers have been carried out on the comparison of races in terms of biological differences. However, it is important to analyze the effects of racism that can cause race associates differences in health outcomes. This essay details out the phases of race with respect of biological aspect. It is based on an allegory about a gardener to better understand the concept.
A gardener's Tale: understanding Level of Racism
One of the allegories very well describes the three levels of racism. The main point of the gardeners' tale is that the seeds planted in rich, fertile, soil will flourish better than the crumbling soil. The tale mentions the situation where a lady intentionally plants her favorite red flower seeds in fertile soil whereas planting the pink flower seeds in the crumbling soil flower box. Consequently she considers herself right to prefer red over pink. This illustration can be replicated to Institutionalized racism, where the growth condition for both the flower boxes was different. The insult of separating the seeds into two different types of soil depicts the first level.
Internalized racism occurs if the bee appears to pollinate the pink flowers, but the pink blossoms emphasize their preference for the red pollens i.e. deviating from their natural need and environment, the same is the case with people who separate themselves from their ancestor's values, preferring other practices and norms of the society.
Counter Racism
In World War II, segregation of US armed forces led to several incidents. After World War I, Navy removed all the American-Africans from the armed forces. Then in 1932, they again started to recruit them but just for low grades like kitchen servants and others. They were not hired on the officer's grade.
