February 24 was the year of the launch of the social networking site known as Facebook. It is operated and owned privately by Facebook Inc. Currently the site has 900 million users that are currently active. To use the site, you need to register, and after that, you make your profile, add people you know and join different groups that are of interest to you. The name Facebook' was given to the website in reference to its connection to universities and to help students in better knowing their counterparts. To become a Facebook user, one must be 13 years old. The principal founder of the social network is Mark Zuckerberg along with Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes who were his fellow students and roommates in college.

To become a part of facebook the users are required to register with the web page and make their profile, this profile carries all their information. After this, the individual needs to add his / her friends and can chat, share videos and can massage each other. In addition to, this site users can also join various groups of introduced that are characterized in various categories like schools, college or workplace.

The cycle or method that is use to introduce any latest product or service in the market is known as Commercialization. The launch of the site went through many critical phases; with its issues between the founding members, university and other fellow students. The launch of any product requires great attention and concentration from the start of production, to different stages of release and finally the launch of the product in the market (Harris, 2010).

The launch or commercialization of the facebook could have been done differently and with more of a proactive approach. Its launch was filled with deviations and with not a clear plan in mind of the next stage. The founders took the launch on the method of was and when' require. However, there has never been a broader thought or perception behind the initial launch of the site.

The site was in its initial stages was never meant to be for everyone but exclusively for the Harvard University students. Later on, with its publicity and acceptance the site expanded its wings to different universities and finally to the world. If there had been a acceptable plan and the way forward in mind than the commercialization of the site would have been very different. Marketing strategies would have been taken into consideration and things would have been done with complete planning and coordination. However, it is imperative to understand that this is the work of college students and not business professionals. Starting a business and making it as success is no small feat.
