Introduction

The stages and processes involved in pregnancy till the delivery of the baby and afterwards are as follows:

Abortion: before 24th week (before the term was 25 weeks + 5 days), was accomplished when the formation of the retina (which is essentially the brain), which is necessary so that the light stimulus activates the brain.

Preterm delivery: before the 3th week; A term of 37° between the beginning and the end of the 41th week (41 + 6 days);

Post-term: the beginning of the 42th week.

In relation to post-term pregnancy, in clinical practice, if the contractions do not start spontaneously, the induction is proposed in general as little as 41 weeks + 1 day. This is because numerous studies have shown an increase in neonatal mortality and morbidity after 41 weeks. The calculation is performed from gestational age from 1 day of the last menstrual period (useful for this purpose a ruler obstetrician) or with the help of ' ultrasound fetal biometry by measuring the (first quarter, Sacred Summit length) (Zlotnick 2001). In humans, also the baby to term is still characterized by a condition of great immaturity and dependence, physical maturity is reached only after an extremely long period.

The Natural Birth

For educational purposes only, delivery may be divided into 4 phases:

Prodromal phase (latent)

Dilating phase

Expulsive phase

Afterbirth

The first two stages are labor that begins with strong, regular uterine contractions accompanied by changes in loading of the cervix (thinning and dilation).

The Prodromal Phase

It is characterized by the presence of irregular contractions of the uterus character initially but with a tendency to stabilize with the passage of hours. These contractions are different from the contractions valid identifying the onset of labor, and are called “Braxton Hicks contractions” (named after the English physician who described them). The frequency and duration of these contractions varies with the individual level. She feels the pain in the suprapubic area. It can also cause the expulsion of the so-called “mucous plug”, together with small streaks of blood due to the initial changes in the cervix (Alehagen 2005).

The onset of labor can occur suddenly or gradually, and is defined as regular uterine activity in the presence of dilation of the cervix.

The duration of this phase is highly variable (even when it is established based on the beginning), usually takes about 5-6 hours in nulliparous and parous in even less.

Phase Dilating

The contractions become regular (every 3-4 minutes) and generally increase its duration (30-40 seconds) and intensity.

During a contraction the long muscles of the uterus contract, from top to bottom, until the end. When the contraction ends, the muscles relax and become shorter than they were at the beginning of the contraction itself. This raises the cervix at the level of the child's ...
