Case Summary

Effective recruiting is the key to success of any company. The effective recruitment policies ensure that the company or any institution is concerned with the valued human resources (Robert L. Mathis and John H. Jackson, 2010). The adequate recruitment policies and procedures have great impact upon the candidates who come to companies for the interview. In this case, Northwest State College has been operating from four years and yet its recruiting is being done by the head of the Department of Business Administration and in case of the absence of head the meeting for the purpose of recruiting is conducted by any of the instructor in the department. This is the point that is giving rise to the recruitment issues in the Northwest State College. The college has not any particular department even after four years. If there is proper and adequate recruitment department and the particular head in this area, there would be no such problems and proper planning regarding recruitment can be efficiently and effectively carried out and the proper policies can be developed (Manoj P., 2012).

There are many flaws in the current practices that are conducted by the college. The first is that the candidates have to wait for about two months after filing the application up to the final selection procedure. This time period is more than the usual. The candidate who is not selected wastes its most time in waiting for the final response from the college and thus returns unsuccessfully. Not only this is the major issue, the other issue is that the candidate, who is not given the job, is not given any of the travelling charges for coming to the college for the numbers of interviews. However, the other colleges in the town are giving the full or at least half of the travelling expenses to the candidate who is not hired in the end. The other reason for the unsuccessful recruitment in the college is that, the existing faculty and instructors are given the lower pay scales as compared to other colleges in the area. This makes the college to bear the loss of potential faculty members and thus increase the hiring costs of the college (Robert L. Mathis and John H. Jackson, 2010).

The college will have to improve its policies regarding the interview and hiring period as well as regarding the pay scales of the existing faculty members and other personals of the college for the successful recruiting of the college and to meet the future requirements of the faculty. The college must have to develop appropriate system of recruiting and for the management of recruiting practices. The accurate recruiting practices will allow the college to have the successful hiring that will be of low costs as well as the adequate policies will reduce the turnover rate and will increase the worth and reputation of the college in near future (Kathy ...
