Introduction

This paper is a proposal of strategic plan for business 'Cabela's'. This paper highlights the potential sources of information that can be used in the research process and how they will lead the researcher in validating the vision, mission, and values statements and also the sources will be accessed to gain the required information to critically appraise the situation pertaining to internal and external environments. The research will require a thorough background search into the activities of business and anticipate the future scenario in light of industry reports, expert's opinions, competitive moves, along with government actions.

Company

The company for this strategic plan is Cabela's. The company is actively involved in outfitter business related to fishing, hunting and outdoor gear. Dick Cabela's started this business back in 1961. The business of outfitter is such that, companies appear and vanish without surviving time to flourish in the industry. However, Cabela's has proved to be survived and even grown to become the largest mail-order internet outdoor and retail outfitter in the world.

In the old days, Dick and his wife Mary, use to run the business affairs in their kitchen table, however things have changed now. The ad hoc approaches and reactive approaches to opportunities and threats are gone case now. The only way to survive and grow profitability in future is to formulate, implement and evaluate sound strategies that enable the firm to respond to external environment and change the internal environment to take proactive stance where possible.
