Introduction

Interview can be defined as a conversation between two or more people. In the conversation, the interviewer asks questions from the interviewee. This tells the interviewer whether the person being interviewed is fit for the position. Every profession in this world includes interviews. The nursing profession is no exception to this. One of the most important jobs of a nurse leader is to interview the candidates for the jobs of a nurse or related fields. They interview the prospective candidates who will join the organization. This is one of the essential roles of the nurse leader and is included in his job description.

There are many questions that the nurse leader asks in the interview. The interview can be of many types too. The kinds of questions asked also depend on the interview that is been conducted. The interview can either be face to face. This interview is the one in which the candidate is asked questions one on one. It is one of the most common type of interviews. This helps in building rapport between the interviewer and the interviewee. A panel interview can also be conducted by the nurse leader. In this type, a panel of experienced nurse leaders are made to sit in a panel. All of them asks questions from the candidates. A behavioral interview can also be conducted by the nurse leader. The questions asked in this interview are related to the behavior of the candidate and behavior that is necessary for the job. If the candidates behavior matches the behavior required for the job, the candidate is selected, otherwise not.
