Community based intervention was done for young children, which seems very important by looking at the conditions of health in children. Some effective strategies were being made to bring the children near to healthy life that is to have appropriate food and physical activities. This target was aimed to achieve through guiding the children about appropriate caloric intake and to make it sure that the children should understand that they have to burn those calories which they have taken. Schools were considered as the best environment in which the children can be addressed.
The potential of reaching towards children for this intervention should have excellent results. A chance was taken in 3 diverse cities in Massachusetts. The children in grades first to third were targeted and the intervention was designed in such a way that the children can get the point easily as they are not mature to understand each and everything easily. The studies for obesity intervention should be done likewise to address all of the routine energy balance.
Implementation of intervention and Strategies
There were no studies which had created some influence towards the issue, so Shape up Somerville was conducted. The agenda was obesity change intervention which displays some preferences, Eat smart and Play Hard. The introduction of first collaborative community based participatory research was done. The policy was to bring change to prevent obesity in children of age 8 - 12.Many individuals & groups within the community plus children, parents, teachers, school food service providers, city departments, policy makers, healthcare providers, before & after school programs, restaurants, and the media were engaged in the intervention.
