Abstract

The healthcare system in the United States is complex where the healthcare services are unaffordable by the common citizens. This has led to the increased mortality and morbidity rates in the US, despite of it being the developed nation. The cost of healthcare continues to increase as a result of which access to the quality healthcare becomes difficult for the population. The increased spending into the healthcare system is attributable to the increased prices that are charged by physicians and the hospitals in addition to the readily available technology. People who are uninsured cannot afford the healthcare services whereas those who are insured sometimes try to avoid the utilization because of the additional cost along with their half they would be required to pay for the prescriptions and the treatments. ObamaCare was introduced with the vision to make the provision of the healthcare services universal yet the structure that is used with the private insurers being used to facilitate the healthcare insurance services, the system is deeply flawed. It is required to monitor the entitlement more vigilantly; for which mechanism are required to be put in place and public insurers are to be used in place of private insurers for they charge extravagantly and thus does not ensure provision of affordable healthcare.

Problem Statement

It has been found that average yearly cost of healthcare for an American family of four has surpassed $29,000 mark and reached an all-time high (Young, 2012). The problem this paper will focus upon is related to the health industry of USA. Even though, USA is established as developed and wealthy industrialized nation, people continue to suffer from disparate syndromes which go untreated and lead towards the development of chronic diseases. This chronic illness most of the time leads the patient to death. The basic reason behind this inefficiency is the unaffordability by people in terms of quality healthcare as a result of which people fail to get access to quality healthcare services. This is the fundamental reason for the US being recognized as having higher morbidity and mortality rate.

Over 48 million people are now uninsured in US and the numbers are increasing (Senger, 2012). This is the sound evidence supporting validity of the problem statement and the significance of problem under consideration. The cost is seen as increasing over the period of years despite the decrease in utilization of healthcare services; which directly is affected by cost anyways. All of this is directly complementing the decreasing healthcare quality and increasing morbidity and mortality rate.
