Amazon began to grow fast since 1998, at this period it wasn't any more a small online book seller, nevertheless, Amazon faced big losses to grow up fast and was exposed to threats from other competitive companies. Borders Group was acquired in 1992 by K-mart and started by trying to open a shop in Canada but they failed so their first official international store was in Singapore and they were running 511 stores all over the world that can be a sign of a growth strategy (build more stores for more profits).
