Alexander the Great: The Most Influential Leader of his Time

For my final research paper I intended to prove that Alexander the Great was the most influential person for his country. The way he led his people made an impact on the leaders after him and the way they chose to lead. His military campaign was unlike any other of his time. Also, I intend to show the differences between Cyrus the Great and Darius, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar and Charlemagne. They had many differences to Alexander's chosen way of leading. At the end of this final paper their will be a clear and concise conclusion that Alexander the Great was the best ruler and leader of his time. He is what leaders today look at when they need strategy and leadership skills1.

The reason why so many people talk about the leadership skills of Alexander the Great is because he did so much, in the little time he was a leader. His father King Phillip II was a good ruler also. He set his son up for success. Although there is very little written about the relationship between Alexander and his father, the one thing they share, is the ability to lead.

Background

Alexander the Great's ability to identify with his troops and be one of them made his soldiers want to follow him. He put the lives of his soldiers ahead of his own. When someone was injured he went to see them to make sure they were not wounded too badly. He was a people person that made everyone around him excited about what they were doing.

He invaded and conquered Asia Minor, Egypt, Mesopotamia, the Middle East, the Persian Empire, Afghanistan, Sogdiana, Bactria; and invaded India. He Unified Greece in less than two years. All his accomplishments would not be possible without the backing of his people. He traveled around to many different lands and was in many different battles and he never lost. He was a man that could not and would not be defeated by another man. He was as invisible as the people he studied. Although dying at the young age of 32, he did more and accomplished more than many other rulers before and after him2.

Alexander the Great is the greatest leader of all time and will remain so for a long time because he has so many contributions to the world. The main thing he did for his time was the unity of many regions and lands. To be unified back in Alexander's day meant that there was some kind of protection to look to. The people didn't have to worry if they were going to be taken over because everyone around then was unified under the same leader. Alexander the great gave the people that security.
