The main cause of hate crimes is the prejudice present against the other community because of their association with a particular race or color. The American culture suffered from stereotyping of the minority people who are then subjected to hate crimes. The contact in which a hate crime is committed is mainly because of need of status or power. People are threatened that their freedom mighty be taken over by other minorities therefore by stereotyping with this thinking they go and commit a crime against a particular race. Victims of hate crime suffer from serious psychological trauma. The whole community may feel unsafe about the crimes committed against them. The department of justice of United States defines hate crime as the crime motivated by prejudice towards a particular community mainly because of the color, caste, creed, religion, sexual orientation, or the race to which they belong. This creates a bias among the offenders and they then inflict damages on that community deliberately in order to secure their existence and living.
In most cases when the hate crimes against a particular community increase the chances of the community members to retaliate in order to counter the activities against them. In 2006 statistics provided for racially motivated hate crimes were the highest of all (Anonymous, pp. 24-30).
Several steps were required in order to prevent the hate crimes. There are chances that hate crimes might increase in future. Police need special training when dealing with hate crimes while victim should also be provided with guidance.
