History of Equal Employment Opportunity Commissions
Introduction
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), an entity of government that is created to eliminate discrimination in the U.S workplace. This entity is the founded on race, gender, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, or gender of the employees. This discrimination is generally done in two ways that are direct discrimination and indirect discrimination. An employee or potential employee had given less priority for the reason that of their race, sex, marital status religion, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, age, disability, pregnancy or maternity. However, when certain requirement or circumstances forced by an employer or an organization, this enforcement will have an unfavorable impact on others. This termed as indirect discrimination. Nevertheless, when looking at closer picture of the EECO policy, it reveals that the policy or work is actually more focused on a particular group that has a certain physical or mental advantage as compared to the other groups.
An employee working in the organization has a certain set of rights as well as responsibilities towards the workplace. If an Employee keeps these rights in their mind while following their responsibilities, it will help them in fighting against any sort of discrimination in the workplace (Bennett & Alexander, 85). The EEOC wasn't always around to protect employee rights, but during the 1960's, when integration and racial issues became heated, it was obvious that certain protections were necessary.
