Civil Rights Movement
Throughout the 1960's, the broad movement of civil rights for African Americans has changed in terms of their objectives and strategies. The campaign has intensified in this decade, characterized by higher demand and more aggressive efforts. While the support of the civil rights movement was relatively constant, the movement's goals became the highest-reaching and specific, and their strategies became less compromising. African-American struggle for equality in the 1960's was a constant movement that uses the change for progress. In essence, the transformation of the civil rights movement throughout the 1960's sent the evolution of America into a nation of civil equality and freedom.
In late 1950 - early 1960, the Civil Rights Movement was a peaceful competition and relatively low profile for equal rights. The movement was moderate goals, and in general did not aim to overcome the prejudices of a fast and aggressive. At the beginning of the movement, many African-Americans were outraged by the clear inefficiency of President Eisenhower's Civil Rights Act of 1957. This political action designed to facilitate the vote of blacks in southern states, however, with the racism that prevails in the South, which was ignored. In response, the black leader Martin Luther King Jr. used idealistic speeches about blacks could achieve political victories, socially and economically. This is evident in the famous Dr. King "I have a dream speech," made in 1963 (Fairclough, 2001, 596). As its title indicates, the only speech stirred the souls of countless black political action or any specific demand. This is evident in one of the most famous lines of the speech, "I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory the Lord shall be revealed.
