CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION

1.1. Background of the Study

The sailing competitions of the Olympic Games and Paralympics Games London 2012 will take place on the site of Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour. The Weymouth and Portland Harbour will host for the competition of sailing Olympic and Paralympic. It was the first building to be completed for the Olympic Games of London 2012.

It is located in Dorset on the south coast of England. In the place also include the National Academy Sailing Weymouth and Portland (Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy WPNSA) and a commercial port.

The port offers some of the best natural waters for sailing sport in the UK, with solid ground facilities. Weymouth and Portland has hosted many international sailing competitions, including the ISAF World Youth Championships in 2006 which were submitted more than 60 nations.

Among the reforms that were made to prepare the site to host the Olympics, are improvements on the docks and new mooring facilities. The project was completed on budget and ahead of schedule, and a new class facilities have already been used three years before the start of the Olympic Games. No seats for the sailing event, so that viewers will see the competition standing or sitting on the floor. After the Olympic Games in London 2012, the National Academy of Weymouth and Portland sailing will take over the maintenance of modern facilities.
