Character of the 21st Century

Introduction

This paper intends to talk about the character of twenty first century. I believe the character of twenty first century would be more war prone. The basic reasons of my thinking revolve around the increased threats of terrorism, the difference between the demand and supply of oil and extended trends of globalization. Arquilla, John. Falk, Richard. Falk, Richard, Raffo, Veronica, Chandra Lekha Sriram, Peter Spiro, and Thomas Biersteker are some of the main authors I have read in this regard and I believe all of the authors seem to support my views in one way or the other. The issue relating to the character of twenty first century seems to be extremely important and relevant to the field of international relations. Thus, all the reasons selected for creating an analytical essay are relevant to the current situation of the world. The purpose of this paper is to make the reader aware about the environment which twenty first century would witness politically and internationally all around.

Terrorism

Terrorism has been emerged as one of the most important worldwide phenomenon of terrorism. Today's world is facing the ongoing war on terrorism mainly after the attacks of 9/11 in the United States. Terrorism is not a new phenomenon and according to some historians its history can be traced back to the French Revolution. All the underlying wars initiated by United States of America like Iraq War and Afghan War do not seem to provide any effective results in the eradication of terrorism; thus making homeland security at stake (Arquilla, 2007).

United States of America in order to ensure the homeland security would not take any time to get involved or impose any other wars from where the threats of terrorism initiates like Pakistan. The emergence of Terrorism in the modern era can be traced from the situations of Middle East. The constant Arab and Israel conflict have given birth to the terrorism in the modern world. Moreover, the tragic events of 9/11 remain the significant reason behind the increased terrorism. The terrorist attacks of 9/11 and the reaction of United States to those attacks in the form of imposing wars on Iraq and Afghanistan and completely destroying the countries have given rise to the modern terrorism (Falk, 2001).

Islamic extremists like Taliban and Al Qaeda base their terrorist attacks on the United States policy against terrorism. Terrorism is one of the most important things which would drive the war prone nature of the twenty first century. Thus terrorism also gives rise to wars and also provides opportunities to super powers of the world to impose wars on the name of terrorism; whereas the actual reason of the war lies in the demand and search for oil.

Demand for Oil

Industrialized countries are trying to reduce the dependence of their economies on oil imports, but still, their share in the energy balance is dominant, especially in such an important sector, such as ...
