CHAPTER 3: METHODOLOGY
Introduction
This chapter details the methodology used to conduct the research study. Development of sampling size, design, measures; data collection procedures, data analysis and ethical considerations were followed.
A mixed method was employed to gather general and then more specific information from participants and sources. The mixed method includes both the quantitative and qualitative research methods for gathering information. The secondary source of data included relevant literature, periodicals & journal articles in the areas of how electronic media such as TV, video games, computers causes obesity among children and adults. In the research study, it provided the information regarding the electronic media such as TV, video games, computers causes obesity among children and adults & relevant data required to complete the research. There were various sources from which the data were collected; these sources were collected from the secondary sources. In the secondary sources, the online libraries, as well as, different peer review journals will be used for data collection regarding how electronic media such as TV, video games, computers causes obesity among children and adults.
The primary data collected for this research study included questionnaire. The questions of the questionnaires were close ended; some of the questions were open ended.
Research Question and Hypothesis
Following were the research questions for this research study:
How electronic media increases the chances of obesity among children and adults?
What interventions must be taken for controlling obesity in adults and children?
H0: There is an indirect relationship between electronic media such as TV, video games, computers and obesity.
H1: There is an inverse relationship between electronic media such as TV, video games, computers and obesity.
Research variables
Following were the research variables for this research study:
Independent variable
Electronic media
Dependent variable
Obesity
Research Design and Approach
In this research study the Pragmatic approach was used. The pragmatic approach consists of qualitative and quantitative research methods. The need for selecting this approach is that it would be helpful to attain the data via survey as well as via interview methods. For this research study the mixed methodology was used, which included qualitative as well as quantitative research methods.
Mixed methodology was used in this research method. The advantage of using this method was that it helps in gathering numerous types of data for attaining the variables' understandings that would help the researcher to attain the most appropriate data. However, the use of multiple types of research means that the researcher needs be competent in the various types of study being conducted (Zikmund, Griffin, 2010, 90). Additionally, mixed-method research can take longer to complete because of the multiple phases of research and multiple forms of data being collected.
The reason of employing quantitative research method is because it is useful in examining experimental and ...
