Key elements of early to mid-Victorian fiction and its relationship to the culture and politics of the time

During the novel presents a good amount of supernatural incidents, although their true nature is always ambiguous. The mystery of Heathcliff's parents, in fact, is never resolved. In the starting of the story, Lockwood is struck by a vision of Catherine that appears at the window of his old room at Wuthering Heights, begging him to let her. Heathcliff, perceiving this, we not only believe, but when he dies, it is noticed that the window of his room was left open, giving credence to the possibility that Catherine could return at the time of his death (Milbank 1992, Pp. 17-21).

On the death of Catherine, Heathcliff himself invokes the ghost begging him not to give him rest. Heathcliff tells Nelly Dean then being "persecuted" by Catherine. After Heathcliff dies, Nelly Dean reports that the various stories that are told around telling Catherine and Heathcliff that roam the moor , although in the final lines of the novel, Lockwood gives birth to the idea of "rough sleepers' dreams in the land calm. "

These details, along with other scenes from the book Wuthering Heights have done comparable to the Gothic novel (Moran 2006, Pp.3-19).

As it has been elaborated in the above lines that how the novels and stories of that time were aimed at interpreting the fictious tales, this depicts the culture of that time. That era was characterized by the fictious tales that were not practical but were based on fantasy. Moreover, politics at that particular time was based upon such types of tales. For instance, as it is depicted from the past that wiches were punished and sentenced to death by such politicians, and by doing so they gained more of the public attention and affiliation.

A great moral rigidity characterized the society of that time period. The Victorian era was thirsty of vigor, correctness, and aspired to the dignity of human moral stability, so the romance, feelings, emotions, ie the "adventures", but did not cause suspicion and contempt. The good bourgeois dream of the absolute order, a society where emotions and feelings were hidden and the capitalist utopia was a perfectly competitive market.

Bourgeois culture certainly believed in discipline, thrift and practicality. All those elements led, one way or another, to an orderly society, rational and sober, had no place where agents subversive and disruptive, bad taste and bungling. Therefore, the ways and good manners are prerequisites for the promotion and development of a civilized form of life, moral and lucid objectives. That was the ideology of the imperialist bourgeoisie in Victorian England of the last century. All good English should show a behavior similar to their straight and honest, even though those virtues, in many cases, were only an appearance.
