Wound Cleansing

Introduction

Wound cleaning is an integral part of the treatment and healing therapy. In order to provide an appropriate wound cleansing several recommendations are made in terms of the solution used. However, from decades, water has been the most commonly and widely used agent with limited to no side effects. This document has taken the two water samples; tap water and sterile saline water, and studied the advantageous effects of tap water over sterile saline solution.

This paper will look into the factors that are considered while cleaning a wound and the solutions that are used in the process. The paper will prove and explain the benefits of using tap water, instead of normal saline solution for the cleansing purposes. It will also through light on the effects of such aspects on fitness and illness of a person (Heinrich, 2007). The assignment further explains the emergence of health care system of Oman, the development of nursing profession and compares the results of the study with the condition in Oman and overall world.

Discussion

From over a decade, wound cleansing has been an important subject for the health care workers. Proper wound cleansing is important to improve and speed up the healing process. For the cleaning o wounds, it is essential a solution that is non toxic in nature should be used, so that it would not only remove the debris but also avoid harming the tissue (Murphy, 1995). In the field of nursing, the dressing of wound is a critical process that requires clinical expertise, vast knowledge and an evidence based practice to ensure patient safety and well being. To prepare the wound bed; wound cleaning is a critical step (Bee,Maniya, Fang, et.al, 2009).

Water is the non toxic and most widely used solution to clean wounds before their dressing. However, the type of water used has been a topic of scientific debate lately. Normal saline is an appropriate solution o clean wound, however it is costly and in community settings, the preparation might take time. The use of tap water for wound cleansing has been applied from many years, yet many health care practitioners are still unsure if they should use it. The reason being the infection the tap water could cause the benefits over rule the existing opinion of these researchers. The researches have proved that tap water, if taken from an appropriate resource, is safe to clean wounds.
