Introduction

The term transformational was born with the intent to explain the influence of some remarkable people, and their success which was equally exceptional in motivating others to make above-average performance, although the two concepts are similar, the object of study. In models of charismatic leadership, the focus is taken on the action of the person of the leader: as articulated, for example, present the vision, thrilling future of the organization members, as has been proposed as a model, as put in place a few lines of action and so on.

Thesis Statement

A transformational leader stimulates enthusiasm and moves the nation when the goals that the followers wish them to attain. John F Kennedy showed all the characteristics of being an effective transformational leader which shaped the future of the nation.

Kennedy's Leadership

Kennedy was able to create an environment without many layers that encouraged open communication. This required thoroughness on his part so as to be certain that the tasks are covered b y a competent person. This is the real trait of a transformational leader (Delleck, 2004). Kennedy was able to infuse the rest of the group, some form of vision or inspiration that motivates them to transcend the common performance goals and make an effort in the collective interest. Bass called this style with the term transformational to distinguish it from transactional leadership, where the leader is much more responsive and to intervene only when a problem appears. It merely specifies the conditions and the rewards they will receive if they reach their objectives. Bass suggests that transformational leadership can result in increased performance in every situation, but particularly in times of crisis and change.
