Government makes it difficult for working class students to obtain higher education

Introduction

Higher education is not usually a pleasant thing to obtain for the working class students. Uneven education at primary and secondary level places several of working class students behind from the start. Because of this unequal educational background and cultural differences, this class of students found themselves trapped in the conflict that whether they should even opt for college studies or not. Going to college for higher education can sometime appear to be a big dilemma for the working class as they find the culture of higher educational institutes isolating.

Getting a college degree seems a must now as the trends are rapidly changing; in order to get a respectable job one has to be educated in a proper college. Previously, anyone with a high school degree was considered adequately eligible for a decent job but now the norms have changed and one has to attend college to be a successful job candidate (Biddle, 2001).

One other issue, that the working class faces these days, is how to cover the expenses of the higher education. One of the options available to them is to go for study loan. Even though, there is a general concept that one should spend on education whole heartedly as it is with the individual for life, but in today's economically affected age spending on higher education can prove to be a serious gamble as the most thriving graduates can even find it hard to step in the shoes of an employee. The completion of college degree may land the individual on a job but paying back the loan can prove to be financially tough for the candidates.

Government measures for working class students

Government has not been playing a vital role in reducing the problems of the working class students. The students are already being imposed with the pressures of long working hours; paying dues of their strenuous study loans and then studying at college, still no significant steps have been taken by the government to make students' lives easier. This inefficient behavior shown by the government is causing more inequality among the students as they are then forced to drop out of college. Getting quality higher education now only seems to be an Elite class thing as day by day it is getting difficult for the working class students to cope with the difficulties of earning and studying at the same time (Burke, 2002).

Although the government is providing K-12 education to underprivileged and working class students, the quality of education provided in such institutions are below standards. These institutions are not doing a commendable job in preparing students for their future professional postings or even for their additional education. They are also not helping enough in getting these students prepared to take part in society or help their interests.
