Introduction

The paper discusses work design and organizational structure on organizational effectiveness. Organizational effectiveness has long been studied in the field of management sciences. Many strategists and consultants have designed factors of physical environment which promote organizational success. The factors which are considered necessary for organization include capacity for innovation and creativity, developing quality of work life, operational efficiency, achieving organizational mission, employee retention and attraction etc.

Organizational Effectiveness

The idea of work design is considered as a significant factor which supports organizational effectiveness. At present, workplace research addresses a limited number of outcomes such as particularly occupant comfort and perceptions and limited topic areas such as ambient conditions. Less attention is being paid to the organizational and group level outputs and processes. There is a need to understand the significance of workplace design and how does it promotes organizational effectiveness and performance.

Evaluation of effectiveness of organization is an important element in the development of work design and plan. It also helps in developing decisions which detects the level of progress for existing structure, development projects or planning activities and is conducted to select the most rational option structures or ways to improve it (Heerwagen , p. 510). Organizational effectiveness should be assessed at the design stage by analyzing structures of organizations to plan and implement measures to improve performance.
