Introduction

Definition

Wind power is converted into electrical energy by wind turbines. That is the kinetic energy is converted into electrical energy. The quantity of energy that is being produced directly depends on the speed of the wind. The commonly operating wind speed at which a wind turbine operates fall in the range of 2.5m/s to 25m/s. However, it is always the possibility that at times, the wind power can be unavailable or at other times the speed of the wind is very high (Gul&Stenze, p.12). The high speed conditions makes the wind turbines be shut down so as to prevent any sort of damage. The peak electricity production from the wind turbines is subjected to the seasonal variations. Fluctuation in the wind power can be at various times during winter or summers, that is dependent upon the region. In general, the short fluctuations are not considerable in comparison with the production of larger areas, where the fluctuations are of hours or of daily basis. Hence, the variations in degree of fluctuations are very much dependent upon the site. For example, the land breezes are less constant as compared with the sea breezes (Gul&Stenze, p.12).

Wind is nothing but an atmospheric air that is supposed to be in motion. There is a wide range of wind types, some of them are jet streams, planetary circulations, trade winds, gradient winds, thermal winds, land breeze, sea breeze, storms, atmospheric waves and tornados etc (Kalmikov & Dykes, n.d).

Wind power holds a unique space of all the energy sources that are renewable. This is because of its combination of two things: First one is its technical preparation and the second is the fact of its being a site specific. Wind is suitably placed for all the renewable existing in order to make contributions to the need of electricity. On the same hand, it is lowering its emission of carbon dioxide. Secondly, the wind turbines are made part of the landscapes that are undeveloped (http://www.cse.org).

In the United States, incrementing the number of wind farms around the country region would mean that every community will have to provide information of the wind power of the surrounding. This is done in order to keep the balance of less economy of carbon around the region, hence taking it as not a spoiled country side. Though the power of wind is not the complete solution to meet the energy requirements, but it may play an important role in meeting the energy requirements to some extent in future also ...
