William Shakespeare

Introduction

William Shakespeare has undoubtedly been considered as the greatest playwrights of all times. Shakespeare's work reflects the history of English drama. His contribution to the world of English plays and literature becomes clear by considering the fact that he is the playwright whose plays are being performed more than any other playwright of the world. Even after the period of four centuries, his plays are still famous to the same extent. This paper briefly discusses Shakespeare's life and his contribution to the word of arts and literature.

Shakespeare's Life

William Shakespeare was born in 1564, in Stratford. His father was a wool merchant and mother was a daughter of a rich land owner. Shakespeare completed his school education from the King Edward VI grammar School. At the age of 18, he got married to Anne who was a daughter of local farmer. The couple had three children including a twin pair. Shakespeare and his wife lived apart most of the time in their lives as Shakespeare remained busy in his plays and poetry in London (History.com, 1999).

Sometimes between 1586 and 1588, Shakespeare left his family behind and shifted to London, in search for good career opportunities as a poet and playwright. Till 1592, Shakespeare was able to make his recognition as an actor and a playwright. He also worked in Lord Chamberlain's company as one of the managing directors. First two poems of Shakespeare were published in 1593 and 1594 respectively. This was the time when he also wrote most of his sonnets. Due to his service to the world of art and literature, Shakespeare was able to establish his stable position both as a famous playwright and poet, during the reign of Elizabeth.
