However, the argument that stands the strongest is that college athletes should be paid. The reasons are many and they surely outweigh the arguments given by those who favor college athletes not being paid.

Some people point out that the scholarships that are allotted to college athletes should be enough of compensation. However, this would be unfair. This is because millions are generated through college sports. Besides each athlete earns a sum for the college that is far more than the scholarships being given. It is not possible to determine the real worth of each athlete. A famous player not only helps in selling the tickets but is also helpful in merchandise sales. Colleges are not allowed by the NCCA to sell football jersey that does not carry the name of the football player. These jerseys are sold with the player's number that generates a huge sum for the college, but not even a dollar is paid to the players. Advertising and television contracts help college athletic programs earn millions of dollars. Donations toward sports also stand out as amounting to millions of dollars. The athletes who are the front line players do deserve some amount of all these earnings.

Salaries are indeed paid to coaches, athletic directors and other officials. In contrast college athletes are not paid any salary. What they receive in terms of different types of perks such as staying in posh hotels, travel trips and being viewed on TV is little as compared to what they help their colleges earn.
