Why Research Is Important To Educators

Research Problem

The research questions of the study are as given below (Kamps, et.al, 2003, pp. 213).

What was the proportion of students determined to be at risk using SSBD and DIBELS (Letter Naming and Nonsense Word Fluency) measures in kindergarten and first grade?

How strong were the DIBELS subscales of Letter Naming, Nonsense Word Fluency, and Oral Reading Fluency, measured at similar times, linked, thus providing evidence of a common trajectory of reading progress?

What was the pattern of growth in students' letter naming skills, nonsense word fluency, and oral reading fluency, and how was it differentially affected by differences in reading curricula (for example literature- based, Success for All, and Reading Mastery)?

Literature Review

The research study belongs to teacher's effectiveness and disabilities among students which affects their reading and speaking power. This study is very vital to understand student's behavioral problems and link these problems with the learning capabilities. The researchers has designed three psychometrically sound instruments such as Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) to evaluate literacy skills, Systematic Screening for Behavior Disorders (SSBD) which help in evaluating the behavioral problem and early screening project. The research showed that the cognitive behavior, reading and fluency of a person developed rapidly in the early age. Therefore, these instruments played significant role in making students learn actively. According to the researchers, it has been established that the students with emotional and behavioral problems underperformed in term of academic achievements. The main loss that the researchers have identified is lower intellectual level. There are researches who have proved that students with emotional and behavioral problems also witness attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder. The attention deficit affects the learning abilities because the students are not able to focus on the underlying topic (Kamps, et.al, 2003, pp. 212).

Research Design

The design of this research conducted was descriptive. In this research, five schools were participated all these schools falls in the category “at risk”. The schools which were selected for this research had history of poor performance (Kamps, et.al, 2003, pp. 213).

Data Collection

In order to collect data, the researchers screened all students from kindergarten class to second level. The students were screened for academic and behavioral risk with the help of multiple-gating measurement procedures. The researchers have screened students in January of first study year and then repeated its screening during September to October of ...
