With reference to the story, it embodies an apology, where Sister begins to tell the story, that what happened when her sister, Stella-Ronda, came home, after a separation from her husband, Mr.Whitaker. Residing now in the story as a postmistress, Sister tends to discuss and talk the case out in the story. While the plot of the story may appear to be trivial, it is somewhat perplexed and even trivial on a lot of occasions, considering the kind of story Welty narrates through Sister as the protagonist (Shuman, 2002).

The basic reason why Sister moved out of the house was because Stella-Ronda had returned to ruin the lives of her and the family.
