A number of elements are responsible for obesity in children. A dire need exists for taking constructive measures and reducing the ratio of obesity among children and adolescents. Obesity is caused by food intake with energy intake than required for the energy needs of the individual. In any treatment of obesity should change the subject, if they are wrong, their eating habits and lifestyle to energy expenditure exceeds energy intake (Thompson, 2004).
In schools, it is observed that there is less physical activity and they are more focused on curriculum studies but there is a dire need to take some measures to make focus on extra curriculum activities in which effective physical activity is included. Numerous studies have shown the important role that physical activity is insufficient to support the development or maintenance of obesity in both children and adults and the elderly. The excessive television watching is a common cause of reduced physical activity (Institute of Medicine, U.S.2007).
Aims and Objectives
The present study was planned while keeping the below mentioned aims and objectives in mind:
1. To assess the recommendations imposed on schools for adopting policies requiring children to participate in physical education.
2. What are the major hurdles in implementing such policies?
3. To identify the role of exercise in preventing obesity.
4. To enhance the overall understanding on physical education and to suggest remedial measures for dealing with obesity.
Significance of the Proposed Study
The present study holds vital importance in today's fast paced world. Obesity is considered as a global epidemic and a huge number of children are affected by it. The situation is not any different in Australia. In order to understand “why physical education is not helping obesity” and how are the major reasons behind it. This study would help identify the incorporation of various physical activity programs in schools that can assist in curbing the epidemic.
Background
In today's fast paced world; obesity has become a global epidemic and most developed societies in the world are faced with the issue. It is primarily caused due to the person's metabolism. Its genesis and maintenance there is always a positive energy balance, with less energy expenditure than that obtained from the intake. Low physical activity is often an important factor in this lower spending. Obesity is excess weight by increasing fat, which has a number of endocrine and metabolic problems, aesthetic and socio-economic of the most diverse nature. It is of great interest to control obesity minimize these adverse effects. Physical exercise is among the aids to consider keeping the weight for health (Keller, 2008).
