WHO DID AIRPORT SECURITY BEFORE TSA AND HOW AIRPORT SECURITY CHANGED SINCE 9/11?

The airport security was managed by private companies before 9/11attacks, which was on contractual basis. Just after two months the airport security management functions were handed over to Transportation Security Administration (TSA). TSA was made responsible to handle screening activities at all the airports located in United States of America. A locked cockpit and bulletproof doors were installed for minimizing the security risks (Soghoian, 2007). The private companies that were managing the airport security responsibilities were not able to manage their responsibilities in an effective way, due to several reasons. Argenbright Security was a company that was providing airport security to Washington Dulles and Newark Airports; the company faced several issues in May 2000, due to hiring of 1300 un-skilled security guards and the company also recruited security guards having several criminal records for Philadelphia International Airport (Yu, 2010).

Several questions were raised on the performance of the companies that were responsible for managing airport security just after the 9/11 attacks. It was extremely shocking news for the entire nation as well as the agencies that were made responsible to manage security that 19 hijackers managed to cross the existing check posts and boarded the aircraft with no problem at all (Seidenstat, 2004). These attacks made the Department of Homeland Security alert to take active notice of such criminal activities.
