What is a family?

Introduction

The most fundamental and simple unit in the society is known as Family. The idea of familial is very necessary in individual framework as it supports in socialization of children. However, moving further on the subject of the tasks and duties of a family unit, it is essential to make a distinction involving two kinds of family models: nuclear familial and extended (joint) familial order. These two models confuse many groups (particularly in cultural backgrounds where extended familial is still the custom). I belong to a family that is typically a nuclear family, bonded with the feelings of love and care. This paper will address two models of family—nuclear and extended family and compare their strengths and weakness.

Overview of the Family Unit

My family is a typical example of a nuclear family. The two models of family units that are Nuclear and Extended Family have their own importance. However, I support my own family unit because of many reasons. The first reason is that my Nuclear Family has enabled a lot of love, care and understanding. I have received a lot of love from my parents and siblings. I also love my parents and siblings a lot. My parents took good care of myself and siblings as they gave a lot of time to us. We never felt neglected, and our parents took great care of us. We used to enjoy a lot and use to have a good time in the house and also during outdoor activity. It was possible because of the nuclear family unit in our house. This is my own view though; there are many people who also support the extended family unit. However, I have shared my own experience and also extend to support to the nuclear family unit.

Discussion

A family unit is defined as a circle that comprises of physically interrelated (or connected throughout marriage ceremony) individuals that reside together in a single home. Extended or joint family system is a natural conception that is still very much acknowledged in various cultural settings. However, nuclear familial is getting immense recognition as individuals shift to other town looking for a job. The next section will explain these two models in detail and present the differences that exist between two kinds of family circles.

Definition of Nuclear Family

The nuclear familial or simply familial is an expression used to describe a family unit comprising of a couple (parents) and their offspring. This is quite opposite of a single-parent familial, to the joint familial system, and to a familial with more than two adults. Nuclear family circles depend upon a wedded pair, and the nuclear familial may have any numeral of kids.

Definition of Extended Family

The expression extended familial describes a family unit that moves away from the nuclear familial comprising of grandparents, aunties, uncles, and cousins all living in proximity or in the same house. An exemplar is a wedded pair that resides with either the husband or the wife's parental family.
