What conditions contribute to successful peacekeeping operations

Introduction

Peacekeeping is an activity that aims to create the conditions for lasting peace. Peacekeeping has much of a difference from peace building and peacemaking. People who are in the operation of peace keeping or are heading the operation of peacekeeping are known as the peacekeepers (Page 2004). In this operation, the peacekeepers monitor and observe the complete process in post conflict areas and assist ex-combatants in implementing the peace agreements they may have signed. This sort of an assistance can be acquired through a number of sources, which may include building confidence, sharing the powers, enhancing the law, social and economic development etc. as per the security council of the UN, the peacekeeping authority can deploy soldiers, police and other people in order to maintain the peace.

In a situation like this, there was an immense need to take necessary steps to maintain the peace, and the NATO was hired to carry out the operations in Afghanistan. It is not just the UN that is the only organization that tries to ensure the peace and security over the world. As mentioned earlier, it is also NATO that carries out the peacekeeping operations. The general motive for such operations is pretty concise and clear. So far, peacekeeping has proven to be one of the most effective tools available to the UN to assist ...
