Abstract
Oral health of an individual is an essential component of general health as it primarily affects the personal wellbeing and general health of an individual. The oral diseases mainly cause suffering with significant morbidity and pain. The aim of this study is to explore the microbial floral found in the oropharynx and evaluate the evidence base supporting optimal mouth care in the acute hospital settings and to find the link between coronary heart disease (CHD) and poor mouth health. Some of the current studies have shown associations between coronary heart disease (CHD) and poor oral health. Initially, the previous literature was reviewed so as to identify various themes which can assess the readers for conducting the studies in future. Peer reviewed journal publications were obtained from numerous databases. These articles were then analyzed critically. The understanding of the disease related to oral hygiene associated with the chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular issues is likely to offer novel insights into the pathogenesis of diseases. The findings of this dissertation suggest that nurses shall be encouraged to attain knowledge related to the oral care from varied sources of education and it is considered to be an aspect of constant lifetime learning that enhances their oral care knowledge.
