The extent of alcohol drinking is increasing day by day among youngsters and adults of the State. The main reason behind this addiction is the impact of psychological and social factors. The paper will analyze the qualitative and quantitative study focusing on the effects of alcohol over the college students. There are a number of effects and complications that are associated with alcohol, and these complications are linked with life threatening conditions.

Rationale

The reason behind the paper is to evaluate the effects and complications of drug or alcohol misuse among the college students. It was evaluated from a study that the rate of alcoholism is extremely high among undergraduate students (O'Malley & Johnston, 2002). Literature Review

Qualitative Study

A study conducted by O'Brien, McCoy, Rhodes,, Wagoner & Wolfson in 2008, which focused on the consequences and effects of the alcohol and energy drinks among the college students. The main objective of the study was to assess the relationship between alcohol related and energy drink consequences. The study utilized the method of web based survey that was conducted from the random sampling of college students from 10 major universities of North Carolina. Around 4300 students were selected for this survey. The study suggested was conducted in 2006, and invited undergraduate college students from 10 major universities in North Carolina. The conducted survey was the part of study to build up awareness in the students regarding the effects of alcohol consumption (O'Brien, McCoy, Rhodes, Wagoner & Wolfson,, 2008).

The study team approached the administrators of the colleges for the purpose of consent. All of them permitted the study team for the survey. The administrators ensured the possible risks and complications of the study. The total of 4271 students was selected in the survey and all of them answered the questions. 61% of all the students were females, whereas rest of 39 % were males. The average age of the students was 20.4 years. 68% of the students said that they consumed alcohol in the past 30 days. The students of the universities have described that there is a strong relationship between risks and alcohol consumption. The study described that alcohol has extremely bad results over the cerebral system of the human (O'Brien, McCoy, Rhodes, Wagoner & Wolfson,, 2008).
