Sleeping disorder is a medical disorder that can have impact the sleeping pattern of the individual. These disorders can have a detrimental effect on the physical and mental functioning of a living being.

Sleeping disorders cause several effects in the mind such as insomnia, nightmares, and sleepwalking.
b. Define the type of disorder
Most of the time we experience inability to sleep due to various factor such as stress, or other outside and environmental factors. Sometimes the sleeping disorder is due to the psychological problem in our mind resulting in stress, or due to the other factors associated with the brain functioning, and sometimes the factors are combination-neuropsychological. Most common type of sleeping disorder is insomnia, which is mostly found in population diagnosed with sleeping disorder. This type of disorder is mostly linked with the neurological disorder.
c. Diagnostic criteria
The most common type of components which are identified to diagnose this particular type of disorder includes:
Anxiety, depression
Physical and emotional discomfort
Disturbance in the schedule of sleep, such as switching from night to day or vice versa
Significant life stress, illness, death of loved one, job loss or change
Use of specific medications which do not synchronize with sleeping
Chronic stress, discomfort or pain at night
Environmental factors such as noise, over heating in summer and vice versa, light etc
d. Reason(s) why you chose this topic
Since sleeping is the overall barometer of an individual's health therefore it's important to take good care of one's sleeping habits keeping in view all the factors which affect our sleeping habits. I have chosen this topic because of its association with our life long activities. Hence, the reason includes my personal experience with the sleeping disorder along with activities which affects our everyday activities due to multiple factors. However, the importance of topic can also be associated with the professional experience.
e. Epidemiology
Most of the time the sleeping disorder can be found in individuals associated with any race, gender, age, and ethnicities. For instance, in America it is found that the females have better latency of sleeping than men, whereas this type of disorder is mostly found in children and males. Approximately 75%-85% of menopausal women experience hot flashes, which can last for five years. Hot flashes and sweating can make it difficult to sleep.
