Question A: Performance Management as a System

Performance management, evaluation and appraisal are indeed the most important events that employees look forward to throughout their employment period. Moreover, the employees and their supervisors are all equally responsible to play their role in performance management approaches to ensure that the effectiveness of the overall process increases to the maximum (Werner, Schuler & Jackson, 2011). If one or more of the parties shows laziness and does not contribute equally, chances are that the evaluation would not actually succeed in meeting its purpose and goal.

Briefly describe, in a few sentences, the type of employee performance evaluation system currently used by your organization

I work in an organization that believes in evaluating employees on a rather short period in comparison to other organizations within the industry. The productivity, development, exposure and skills of the employees are evaluated every month and after a cumulative database is formed, growths and promotions are announced semi annually to compensate the employees.

Do you, as the employee or supervisor, have any input into the objectives and job performance goals set for your job?  How does this make you feel?  What do you think you need to do to drive yourself to the next level?

Being an employee of an organization which believes in actually treating its employees as resources, a chance of participation is definitely provided to me on a regular basis. After meetings with my supervisor, we decide the benchmark for the entire team for the ongoing period of time.

Because of the provision of a combined opportunity at developing myself while contributing equally through discussions; I feel extremely special because I am being treated as almost equal to my supervisor and am given priority in response to the efforts I make. Moreover, since our entire team agrees on our benchmarks, we already know what is expected if we want to grow at our positions.

Do you and your supervisor meet, on occasion, to discuss your performance goals and your progress?  If not, do you believe having these kinds of meetings would be helpful in assuring you are performing well in your job?  Why or why not?

I have regular meetings with my supervisor with regards to work related issues or problems. Moreover, my opportunity development is always the first priority of my supervisor as he is always looking at my performance and giving suggestions as to how I could improve myself. Because of such a behavior of my supervisor, I feel like I have been taken care of and that my supervisor believes me to be an important part of the team.

Question B: Coaching

Provision of feedback is indeed an important part of development and employee satisfaction because until and unless feedbacks are provided the employee could not highlight himself/herself on the possible areas of development in their work (Jett & Kim, 2011).

In your current job or a job you held previously, describe the feedback methods used to encourage motivation -- what techniques are used to provide the feedback?  How successful is your ...
